    We report on a computation of holomorphic cuspidal modular forms of weight one and small level (currently level at most 1500) and classification of them according to the projective image of their attached Artin representations. The data we have gathered, such as Fourier expansions and projective images of Hecke newforms and dimensions of space of forms, is available in both Magma and Sage readable formats on a webpage created in support of this project

    Requirements and test results for the qualification of thermal control coatings

    Paint type coatings are often used as engineering materials in critical satellite temperature control applications. The functional features of coatings used for temperature control purposes must remain stable throughout the satellite manufacturing process and the satellite mission. The selection of a particular coating depends on matching coating characteristics to mission requirements. The use of paint coatings on satellites, although having an extensive history, requires that the paint be qualified to each application on an individual basis. Thus, the qualification process through testing serves to ensure that paint coatings as engineering materials will fulfill design requirements

    ANKLE JOINT LOADING DURING THE DELIVERY STRIDE IN CRICKET MEDIUM- FAST BOWLING

    To date, biomechanical research investigating the aetiology of cricket injuries has studied the kinetics and kinematics of associated movements in isolation. The aim of this study was to apply inverse dynamics to investigate ankle joint forces during the delivery stride using four Basler 200 Hz cameras synchronised to two Kistler 9581B force plates with Peak Motus 9.2. Although peak ankle joint moment in the sagittal plane was greater for the front foot (mean: 3.21 ± 1.71 Nm⋅Kg-1) in relation to the back foot (mean: 1.70 ± 0.87 Nm⋅Kg-1); average rate of joint loading was 246% greater in the frontal plane for the back foot (mean: 1.11 ± 0.82 Nm⋅Kg-1⋅s-1) compared to the front foot (mean: 0.45 ± 0.20 Nm⋅Kg-1⋅s-1). Findings would suggest that whilst the front foot is prone to acute injuries, the back foot may be more susceptible to overuse injuries such as lateral ankle instability

    A PRELIMINARY ELECTROMYOGRAPHIC INVESTIGATION INTO SHOULDER MUSCLE ACTIVITY IN CRICKET SEAM BOWLING

    2 The aim of this investigation was to describe and compare surface electromyographic activity of shoulder musculature during cricket seam bowling between two elite bowlers with (bowler A) and without (bowler B) shoulder pathology. Activity of seven muscles were recorded at 500 Hz with a digital camera sampling at 210 Hz used to define phases within the movement. Whilst both the duration of the movement and ball velocity were similar between bowlers (bowler A: duration = 0.89 ± 0.04 s, ball velocity = 27.08 ± 1.21 m.s-1; bowler B: duration = 0.72 ± 0.02 s, ball velocity = 26.59 ± 1.49 m.s-1), variations in muscle activity particularly for biceps brachii and infraspinatus were established. Further research utilising larger sample sizes is required to establish if such variations occur as a consequence of shoulder pathology or if these are due to other contributing factors

    Prenatal Cocaine Disrupts Serotonin Signaling-Dependent Behaviors: Implications for Sex Differences, Early Stress and Prenatal SSRI Exposure

    Prenatal cocaine (PC) exposure negatively impacts the developing nervous system, including numerous changes in serotonergic signaling. Cocaine, a competitive antagonist of the serotonin transporter, similar to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), also blocks dopamine and norepinephrine transporters, leaving the direct mechanism through which cocaine disrupts the developing serotonin system unclear. In order to understand the role of the serotonin transporter in cocaine’s effect on the serotonergic system, we compare reports concerning PC and prenatal antidepressant exposure and conclude that PC exposure affects many facets of serotonergic signaling (serotonin levels, receptors, transporters) and that these effects differ significantly from what is observed following prenatal SSRI exposure. Alterations in serotonergic signaling are dependent on timing of exposure, test regimens, and sex. Following PC exposure, behavioral disturbances are observed in attention, emotional behavior and stress response, aggression, social behavior, communication, and like changes in serotonergic signaling, these effects depend on sex, age and developmental exposure. Vulnerability to the effects of PC exposure can be mediated by several factors, including allelic variance in serotonergic signaling genes, being male (although fewer studies have investigated female offspring), and experiencing the adverse early environments that are commonly coincident with maternal drug use. Early environmental stress results in disruptions in serotonergic signaling analogous to those observed with PC exposure and these may interact to produce greater behavioral effects observed in children of drug-abusing mothers. We conclude that based on past evidence, future studies should put a greater emphasis on including females and monitoring environmental factors when studying the impact of PC exposure

    Remarks on the k-error linear complexity of p(n)-periodic sequences

    Recently the first author presented exact formulas for the number of 2ⁿn-periodic binary sequences with given 1-error linear complexity, and an exact formula for the expected 1-error linear complexity and upper and lower bounds for the expected k-error linear complexity, k >2, of a random 2ⁿn-periodic binary sequence. A crucial role for the analysis played the Chan-Games algorithm. We use a more sophisticated generalization of the Chan-Games algorithm by Ding et al. to obtain exact formulas for the counting function and the expected value for the 1-error linear complexity for pⁿn-periodic sequences over Fp, p prime. Additionally we discuss the calculation of lower and upper bounds on the k-error linear complexity of pⁿn-periodic sequences over Fp

    An evaluation of the complement-regulating activities of human complement factor H (FH) variants associated with age-related macular degeneration

    PURPOSE: Factor H (FH, encoded by CFH) prevents activation of the complement system's alternative pathway (AP) on host tissues. FH impedes C3 convertase (C3bBb) formation, accelerates C3bBb decay, and is a cofactor for factor I (FI)–catalyzed C3b cleavage. Numerous CFH variants are associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), but their functional consequences frequently remain undetermined. Here, we conduct functional comparisons between a control version of FH (not AMD linked) and 21 AMD-linked FH variants. METHODS: Recombinantly produced, untagged, full-length FH versions were assayed for binding to C3b and decay acceleration of C3bBb using surface-plasmon resonance, FI-cofactor activity using a fluorescent probe of C3b integrity, suppression of C5b-9 assembly on an AP-activating surface, and inhibition of human AP-mediated lysis of sheep erythrocytes. RESULTS: All versions were successfully purified despite below-average yields for Arg2Thr, Arg53Cys, Arg175Pro, Arg175Gln, Ile221Val, Tyr402His, Pro503Ala, Arg567Gly, Gly1194Asp, and Arg1210Cys. Compared to control FH, Arg2Thr, Leu3Val, Ser58Ala, Asp90Gly, Asp130Asn, Gln400Lys, Tyr402His, Gly650Val, Ser890Ile, and Thr965Met showed minimal functional differences. Arg1210C, Arg53His, Arg175Gln, Gly1194Asp, Pro503Ala, Arg53Cys, Arg576Gly, and Arg175Pro (in order of decreasing efficacy) underperformed, while Ile221Val, Arg303Gln, and Arg303Trp were “marginal.” We newly identified variants toward the center of the molecule, Pro503Ala and Arg567Gly, as potentially pathogenic. CONCLUSIONS: Our approach could be extended to other variants of uncertain significance and to assays for noncanonical FH activities, aiming to facilitate selection of cohorts most likely to benefit from therapeutic FH. This is timely as recombinant therapeutic FH is in development for intravitreal treatment of AMD in patients with reduced FH functionality
